About
Background:
My name is Chelsey Abrahamson and I work as a grade 1 teacher at Creighton Community School in Creighton, Saskatchewan. I graduated from the University College of the North's Education program in 2014 after receiving my Bachelor of Arts from the University of Saskatchewan in 2012. I will begin my fifth year teaching grade 1 at CCS in the fall. Teaching has given me the opportunity to become a lifelong learner, constantly learning and growing alongside my students.
I grew up in a small town called Flin Flon, Manitoba. Being a six hour drive from the nearest city, I grew used to travelling. I have now had the opportunity to travel to many different countries and have learned much about the world around me. Being in a new place requires constant communication, sometimes with those who do not speak the same language. This challenge is exciting to me and I always look forward to my next adventure.
Professional Interests:
I have often heard the saying, "It takes a village to raise a child." I believe this statement to be true for teaching as well. Teachers must work together if they are to give their students the best education possible. We must never stop learning, there are always new approaches or ideas to try. The best resources we have are each other and I am excited to learn from each of you through our PME journey.
I am very interested in language and literacy development. I have the pleasure of working with young students every year. One of our main goals is to develop phonemic awareness and literacy skills. I have received training on a variety of reading programs and hope to learn more about how educators can help students become more successful in these areas.
My future goal is to travel to schools around the world. I would love the opportunity to work and collaborate with teachers from different countries to help make their schools a better place.
